Question:
What age did your child start walking? If adopted from an orphanage, at what age did they come home? I'm trying to get an average & see when/if I should be concerned....Caleigh has had some setbacks that would cause her to be delayed & she's only 14 months, but I'm just curious what the average is for children in an orphanage setting....if it makes a difference...Our boys walked in the orphanage at 15 months...Thanks! :)

Happy New Year! Sadie was cruising the furniture in HCM, and started walking at about 14 months. One of my (bio) sons didn't walk until about 15 months....plenty of time for Caleigh - don't worry! Maybe she is happy crawling for a while :)
Caleb (14 months from Can Tho) took 3 steps two days ago. He has not done any more since then. He too was very delayed. At our GNR (he was 7 months) he could only roll over 1 way. He still needs to be walking holding on to things more but we have seen LOTS of progress.
Sarah, adopted at age 9 months from China, sat up at 10 months and walked at age 18 months. She walked for almost 6 months holding on to our finger but was not steady or confident to let go. She never crawled and hated being on her belly.

Our daughter Lucy is not walking yet (23 months) and was delayed with all gross motor skills. The physical therapist says that she has loose joints and tiny muscles. She will be fitted for orthotics for her shoes tomorrow. I would look into early intervention services in your state. They do a terrific job and really know kids. With Lucy they think that the loose joints cause her to be unstable and fearful of falling. She pushes stuff and cruises all over. She is really tiny and that makes a difference. Hope this helps!
Heather....We brought Ian home at 11 months and he could barely sit up by himself. He didn't walk until he was 17 months old. Drew, on the other hand, was standing on his own at 9 months and walking somewhere between 11 and 12 months (from what we've been told). He was "running" when we picked him up at 13 months. She has plenty of time and considering all that she's been through with her little feet...she's probably on track. Tricia mentioned it above, but your local early intervention program will be a great resource. They were great with Ian...and held my hand when I was so concerned.
Reagan (adopted at 6 1/2 months) started walking at 11 months, but we have two nephews (not adopted) who didn't start walking until 14 and 15 months. I have no doubt she will be fine!
Emaline was a bit delayed when we adopted her at 6 months(could not sit up with out being held and could only roll one way) but she caught up fast and stood at 10months and walked the day before her 1st birthday. Considering Caliegh has only had the opportunity to try to walk for a very short time I wouldn't be concerned yet.
Bex came home one week shy of his first birthday. At that point he could not sit unassisted. He could do a sort of modified Army crawl, but his legs were just to weak to suppprt his weight at all. Our pediatrician suggested that we get him a walker do that he could begin using his legs without having to support his body himself. Chasing the dog in the walker was the most fun he had ever had and it was all he wanted to do from that point onward. About 2 months after introducing the walker he took his first steps at 15 months but wasn't a steady walker until about 17 months.
I am all for early intervention services, but if it were me, I'd give her a little more time first.
